Hands; the achilles heel of the art world. Hard to draw, difficult to paint, and often found sketched in as a shadowy afterthought.
Brenna, however, loves to draw hands.
As the still life is set up, as the model prepares her pose, as the train leaves the station, as the bus is late again, she takes advantage of idle situations by sketching her own hand on scraps of paper.
Through depicting her own hands, and those of her friends, this series is an exercise intended to strengthen painting and observational skill, while showing others the familiar beauty, unexpected expressivity, and infinite arrangements that hands are capable of.
